What is your business?
We are a bespoke Wedding Cake design Company.
Tell us about who works in your company (Do you have staff?)
Nope, just me.... Although that might be about to change!
Where do you work?
Currently from home in Bridlington, however we are currently seeking premises.
Why did you start your business? and when did you start?
I started my business after been made redundant whilst on maternity leave with my second child, there wasn’t any decent jobs about. I have always been creative so one day I started making edible decorations to sell online, mainly for christening cakes or birthday cakes, then in 2010 I made my daughter her 1st birthday cake, and my cake infatuation started from there!
What's your favourite part of your job?
Definitely the initial design consultation where I get to meet so many lovely people, then bringing the designs to life. I love the fact my customers have complete faith and trust in my design skills and nearly always end up saying “ look we will leave it up to you, I am sure it will look amazing”.
What makes your business unique?
I believe my attention to detail is impeccable, nothing is too much trouble for me. I never just make do, if I am not happy with something I start again. People spend a lot of money on their Wedding cake, and I am always truly honored that they choose me to commission their cake. I would say I definitely go with the current trends in the cake world, and I have trained alongside some of the most amazing cake artists in the UK in the areas I wasn’t always happy in, I am pretty much a self taught designer that once I had found me feet searched for the best teachers in that field to excel my already self taught abilities.
What do you think the future of the wedding industry holds for your business?
Well if someone had told me 18 months ago I would be starting 2013 with over 50 Wedding Cake bookings and been awarded 1st place in the North of England Wedding awards in the whole of Yorkshire in my field, I wouldn’t have believed them. My award was for Outstanding Customer service and satisfaction. So who knows what the future holds, I have massive plans this next 12 months.
What's the number one piece of advice that you would give to couples planning their wedding?
I believe you cannot get a better supplier than one that comes recommended by others. I work with some amazing suppliers and am always passing on their details to my brides. And never book a cake maker until you have tried their cake, good cake isn’t cheap cake!
If you were getting married what would be the one product of your own that you would choose?
It would have to include everything I love, lace, bows, flowers, piping and pastel colours!
What do you predict the next wedding trend will be?
I think lace is going to take over, especially on the cake side of things, there is so many ways you can incorporate lace onto a cake, the traditional lace moulds, lace wraps, brush embroidery, over piping, sugarveil and using appliqué lace from the brides dress.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?
What’s not working?? Lol. I have my 2 children age 2 and 3, so love spending spare time with them, and sleeping!! I don’t know how I get through Wedding season as most nights its 4/5 hours sleep. I certainly make up for it in the Winter and it totally destroys my routine!
